Where was the Battle of Verdun The Battle of Verdun was fought in a salient around the French town of Verdun. The civilian population was forced to flee and many people never came back again. The Battle of Verdun was the longest battle of the First World War, lasting from the 21st February 1916 until the 18th December 1916. Farmland and forest were turned into wastelands of death classified as “Red Zone“. Dozens of villages and towns suffered irreversible damage. Many of them were buried many were never found. The battle was between France and Germany (Phillips and Axelrod). Hundreds of thousands of young men died here. It was fought on the Western Front in France.
